What does the indicator light flashing mean?

Disposable e-cigarettes are simple to use and require little maintenance, making them a very popular choice for many vapers. However, when your vape flickers, it can mean several things. Here's what you need to know.

A blinking light on a disposable vape can indicate several different problems, once the light comes on we recommend that you stop vaping until you can determine the cause. The following are the most common reasons for a blinking light.

The battery is dead

The batteries in disposable e-cigarettes last between 300 and 6,000 puffs, depending on the model and puff strength. The most likely cause of a blinking light is a dead battery.

If your disposable vape is rechargeable, be aware that even rechargeable devices can only be charged two or three times or until the e-cigarette is used up. If you see a blinking light, try charging.

Sadly, if it won't charge, it's the end of the road and it's time for a replacement.

Juice finish

Another common cause of blinking lights is that the disposables have run out of juice. Disposables are very convenient, but as mentioned, have a short life cycle, and if you start to notice a weakness in steam, it's probably juice.

Overexpansion

Almost all e-cigarettes come with a built-in shutdown mechanism to prevent overheating. Hyperinhalation is usually caused by the person using it taking particularly long inhalations or inhaling in rapid succession. The strain on the vape heats the coil to the point where it cuts. Most e-cigarettes have an 8 to 10 second puff timer.

Overheat

Another reason the light might come on is because the vape knows it's reaching dangerous temperatures.

Sometimes, overheating is due to user error. The device may be charging near a heat source. Using the wrong charger that provides too high a voltage can also cause overheating issues. More advanced disposables like the WAKA Smash have built-in overvoltage protection to prevent this problem.

It is important to note that overheating of e-cigarettes is a serious hazard that can cause a fire or even an explosion.

Short circuit

Like any complex mechanical device, disposable e-cigarettes can sometimes short out. Disposables will rarely detect a short and shut down, mostly because manufacturers didn't design them with repair in mind. However, a short circuit can still occur due to severe damage to the e-cigarette.

What do the different flashing patterns of disposable e-cigarettes mean?
Sometimes, the clue to the problem may be the blinking pattern. Here's what to know about vape flash patterns.

Slow flashing

A slowly blinking light usually indicates that the vape battery is dead or has entered power saving mode. A low battery means the vape cannot heat its atomizer and produce the vapor it needs. If the battery is still good, it could also be a sign that it has run out of juice.

Flashing fast

A rapidly blinking light can indicate various things. When a new e-cigarette is activated, it flashes rapidly for a short period of time. This rapid flashing should stop when you start vaping.

If you have been vaping without issue and then see a rapidly blinking light, it may indicate an error or malfunction. The most common mistake is overinflation by people using it.

Keep flashing

Steady or fast blinking is not a good sign. This means that something is seriously malfunctioning internally and you should stop vaping immediately.

Unfortunately, this light pattern means it could be the end of this particular vape. Dispose of it safely and buy a new one.

How to Fix a Flashing Disposable Vape

Depending on the problem, there are various ways to fix a flickering vape.

Low power

If you think the problem is with the battery, you can charge it if it has a charging port, usually a micro USB or USB-C port on the back or side of the vape.

It is important not to plug the vape directly into a power source. Their small batteries can't handle that voltage level, and without built-in overvoltage protection, they'll overheat quickly. Please use a PC or laptop instead.

Let it charge for 30 minutes and try again. If it's still blinking, it's different.

No juice

If you have a blinking light but just fully charged your e-cigarette, the following are the most likely reasons why it is out of gas. Unfortunately, there's not much you can do other than buy new disposables
